Hermanus and Dorothea Gommans lived in Helden-Panningen, Limburg. In April 1943, they welcomed Oscar and Grete Goudsmit and their daughter Edith (later Fisher-Goudsmit) into their home. In 1944, they also sheltered Mr. and Mrs. Lowenstamm. Towards the end of the war, Grete became pregnant and her hosts, concerned that their home was not safe enough for her, sent Grete to their daughter, Mechtildis Janssen*, also in Helden-Panningen. Oscar and Edith remained with the Gommanses until the liberation of that part of the country.
On October 22, 1981, Yad Vashem recognized Martinus Hermanus Gommans and his wife, Dorothea Gommans-Bos, as Righteous Among the Nations.
