For a short time she stayed in Den Bosch, North Brabant, with Johan and Maria van Epen and their five young children. After a while, Mary joined her mother, who was hiding with Grietje Damsteeg-Snijders*, a librarian who lived in the same town and was already hiding five Jews. The van Epens helped the Jews whom Grietje was hiding, bringing them food and money every week. On March 29, 1984, Yad Vashem recognized Johan Herman van Epen and his wife, Maria Gijsberta Elisabeth van Epen-Venekamp, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
