Adrie van Bree and his wife, Catharina, were partners in a large transportation firm together with Adrie's three brothers, among whom was Floris Jan van Bree*. The couple worked with Floris to hide Jews and used the company's cars to transport the refugees to hideouts. For a long period of time, Adrie and Catharina hid Barend Polak and the sisters Annie and Els Linneviel of Amsterdam. They also helped the Rosenboom family, whose daughter was seriously ill with tuberculosis. The van Brees gave the girl a separate room and another fugitive, Nurse Louk Lissauer, looked after her, though the girl later died. Adrie and Catharina believed it was their duty to help people in need and, at the end of the war, they even hid two German army deserters.
On July 4, 1999, Yad Vashem recognized Adrie van Bree and his wife, Catharina van Bree-Baaten, as Righteous Among the Nations.
