Antony Deesker, born in Lochem, was a baker in Nieuw Amsterdam, Drenthe---an area well known for resistance against the Nazis. Antony and his wife, Aleida, born in Binnenborg, hid Jews in their home for varying periods of time. Robert Norden found refuge with them for three months and his mother, Aaltje, for a year and a half, until the end of the war. Henk Roet also hid in their home.
On June 9, 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Antony Deesker and his wife, Aleida Deesker-Rökker, as Righteous Among the Nations.
