Hendrik Diesveld and Isaac Keesing, who was Jewish, were partners in the well-known firm of Keesing Beheer, and it was thanks to this partnership that the firm was not subjected to “aryanization” during the occupation. The Keesings managed to escape to the United States in 1941. Before they left, they gave their apartment to the Diesvelds and asked them to hide Mrs. Keesing’s parents, Max and Regina Feivel-Marcus. The Feivel-Marcuses arrived at the Diesvelds’ home in the autumn of 1942 and stayed there for two and a half years---until the liberation---in a tiny room on the first floor. Hendrik and Bernadina managed to keep their presence secret from the neighbors and even from the nurse that came to look after Bernadina’s baby and Bernadina, who fell ill after giving birth.
On May 31, 1993, Yad Vashem recognized Hendrik Willem Jan Reinier Marie Diesveld and his wife, Bernadina Diesveld-Kraneveldt, as Righteous Among the Nations.
