After a while, Mirjam was relocated to the home of Froukje Kalma* in Warg, where she stayed for six months. In May 1944, Mirjam moved to the home of Rindert and Sytske Dijkstra, who lived with their three young children in Cornjum. She stayed with them until the liberation in May 1945. The Dijkstras were very good to Mirjam. When she fell ill, they called a doctor. When German soldiers were billeted in their home, they kept Mirjam with them notwithstanding the danger. Their motivation was purely humanitarian; they received no financial reward. After the war, they even gave Mirjam a considerable sum of money to help her start a new life. Mirjam never lost contact with her wartime foster parents, even after she moved to Israel, where they regularly visited her. On September 10, 1974, Yad Vashem recognized Rindert Dijkstra and his wife, Sytske Dijkstra, as Righteous Among the Nations.
