They hid Henriette Elzas, a Jewish girl born on November 30, 1939, in their home from February 25, 1943, until shortly after the end of the war, May 10, 1945. Henriette came to their home from Amsterdam through Hetty Voûte* of the Utrecht Childrens Committee (UKC)*. The family refused to take any money for looking after her, acting out of purely humanitarian and religious motives. On February 6, 1973, Yad Vashem recognized Henk Jan Hoek and his wife, Cornelia Hoek-Loudon, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
