Rescue Story
Benedictus, Minze Jitze & Klaaske (Villenga)
C.Z. Kanteman, a German-Jewish refugee, found shelter with the Sijtsmas* in Aalzum, Friesland, in December 1943, but a year later this place became unsafe and she was taken in by the Benedictus family, who lived in Kollumerpomp, a tiny hamlet near Aalzum. She stayed with them on their large farm from December 1944 until the end of the war in May 1945, and Minze and Klaske Benedictus, who were active in the Resistance, obtained false papers for her so that she could move around freely.
On September 13, 1982, Yad Vashem recognized Minze Jitze Benedictus and his wife, Klaaske Benedictus-Villenga, as Righteous Among the Nations.
