Rescue Story
Beek van, Gerrit & Anneta Louisa (Weede) & Jannetje Louisa
Jeannette Jacoby-Asch and Jannetje van Beek of The Hague, South Holland, worked for the same company until 1941, when Jeannette was forced to leave because she was Jewish. During the time they worked together the two women had developed a close friendship and consequently the van Beeks later offered to hide Jeannette’s mother, 62-year-old Esther Asch-Hart, in their home. Esther hid with them from February 3, 1943, until the liberation on May 5, 1945. Throughout Esther’s time in hiding, the van Beeks did everything possible to create a pleasant atmosphere for her and to provide her with food and clothing.
On November 29, 1979, Yad Vashem recognized Gerrit van Beek, his wife, Anneta Louisa van Beek-Weede, and their daughter, Jannetje Louisa van Beek, as Righteous Among the Nations.
