Rescue Story
Barzelay-Degenkam, Constantia Constantia Barzelay, a non-Jewish woman married to a Jew, escorted Sara Streim’s newborn baby daughter to Neeltje and Dirk Bakker* in Oostzaan, North Holland. As for her own husband---she hid him in their home. When a girl was born to them, in early 1943, Constantia registered the child as illegitimate. On May 24, 1979, Yad Vashem recognized Constantia Barzelay-Degenkam as Righteous Among the Nations.
