Rescue Story
Bakker, Gerardus Maria George & Wilhelmina Joanna Maria (Stommel)
In September 1942, the Jewish couple Coini-Joachimstal went into hiding with Wilhelmina Johanna Elizabeth Bakker* and her five adult children in the town of Halfweg, North Holland. The entire Bakker family looked after the couple for over six months. When Coini was forced to leave another hiding place later on, he was welcomed into the home of one of the sons, Gerardus Bakker, and his wife, Wilhelmina, and stayed there until the liberation.
On January 28, 1982, Yad Vashem recognized Gerardus Maria George Bakker and his wife, Wilhelmina Joanna Maria Bakker-Stommel, as Righteous Among the Nations.
