This information is based on the testimony of Arnold Douwes*, the initiator and indefatigable organizer of the project for hiding Jews in the area, and Nico (Max Léons), a young Jew from Voorburg, South Holland, who was his faithful assistant. Between 1943 and 1945, Douwes kept a diary in which he mentioned Harm and Aaltje among the people who helped hide Jews. On June 9, 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Harm Broenink and his wife, Aaltje Broenink-Strijker, as Righteous Among the Nations. |
